Zulal

The Purity of Autochthonous grapes

High elevation viticulture, an extreme climate, and volcanic soil provide distinctive character to the indigenous Armenian grape varieties favored by Zulal. Founded by second-generation winemaker Aimee Keushguerian in 2017, Zulal’s name means pure in Armenian, a reflection of Keushguerian’s desire to celebrate the unfettered flavors of the country’s lesser-sung native grapes.

Zulal’s fruit hails from small-production lots in such villages as Aghavnadzor and Rind in Vayots Dzor’s verdant Arpa Valley. In addition to Areni and Voskehat, Zulal works with such Armenian wine grapes as Koghbeni from Tavush, Nazeli and Movuz and Tozot and Karmir Kot from Vayots Dzor, Sireni from Artsakh, Jrjruk from Tavush and Kakhet from Artashat. The estate produces some 10,000 cases of wine annually.

“Making wine in Armenia is unlike anywhere else- we’re both new and exciting but also ancient and historical. We are on a journey to rediscover our indigenous grape varieties and realize the true potential of our terroir.” Aimee Keushguerian, Founder
